The host team made its mark in a big way during the semifinals of the 57th annual Great Lakes Invitational on Thursday. However, things were not looking good for Michigan Tech, who met with the Alaska Nanooks, a program making its GLI debut, in the first semifinal.

The Nanooks are traveling to Michigan for games in the Great Lakes Invitational (GLI) for the first time in program history. Other teams at the event include Michigan Technological University, Ferris State University and Michigan State University.

After a near three-week break, No. 7 Michigan State returns to action on Thursday against Ferris State in the 57th annual Great Lakes Invitational (GLI) at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. The Spartans have been idle since their two-game sweep over Notre Dame in early December.

The No. 7 Michigan State hockey program (12-4-2) returns to action this week as it takes part in the 57th Great Lakes Invitational, an event in which MSU became a regular in 1979. The Spartans are making their 47th appearance.

Tickets for the 57th Great Lakes Invitational go on sale on Friday (Sept. 22) at 10 a.m. Fans can purchase online at Ticketmaster.com and at the Van Andel Arena, DeVos Place, and DeVos Performance Hall Box Office for the December 28 and 29 tournament.

The Nanooks will join Michigan State University, Michigan Tech University and Ferris State University for the 2023 Great Lakes Invitational. It marks the first time in program history that the Nanooks will participate in the event.

Van Andel Arena, Michigan Technological University, and Michigan State University have signed a four-year extension to the annual Great Lakes Invitational to keep the tournament in Grand Rapids. The 57th annual tournament will take place on December 28-29, 2023, and will open with Michigan Tech against Alaska and Michigan State versus Ferris State.

The Holt, Mich., native became the first player to score six times in a single GLI tournament, surpassing RPI’s Mark Jooris, who had five goals in 1985.

Three first-period goals by Ferris State proved to be the difference in the Bulldogs' 4-2 win over Michigan State in the first round of the Great Lakes Invitational on Tuesday in Grand Rapids.

The tournament will be held at Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids, marking only the second time ever that the 57-year-old tournament has not been held in Detroit, according to the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
